As a Principal Advisor with Ecosystm, Jannat Maqbool is focused on research in emerging technology areas including IoT, FinTech and Agritech. Jannat is also an accomplished former CIO and academic. Jannat has extensive experience managing mid to large-scale technology adoption initiatives and is a lecturer in the Centre for Business, IT and Enterprise at one of New Zealand’s largest and leading Institutes of Technology, Wintec. Jannat launched Wintec’s IoT Waikato initiative in 2017 and has led the execution of Techweek Waikato, part of an annual nationwide festival of technology innovation, in 2018 and 2019 in collaboration with Waikato Innovation Park and Te Waka – Waikato’s economic development agency. Jannat joined Wintec in 2009 where she has also worked on collaborative projects and applied research initiatives involving students, staff and the wider community. Since the launch of IoT Waikato and through her role as Smart Cities Advisor at Hamilton City Council and Operations Manager at CultivateIT (the Waikato tech cluster), Jannat is involved with digital technology pilots and digital transformation initiatives in Waikato focused on leveraging technology in innovative ways to benefit individuals, organisations and communities. Jannat is also an Executive Committee Member for NZ IoT Alliance, Working Group Member for AI Forum NZ and International Working Group Member for FinTechNZ. Jannat Maqbool is passionate about continuous improvement and the role that IT plays in improving operational efficiency and enabling business growth as well its importance for innovation in both a business and wider context. She is a CPA and is currently completing a Masters of Digital Business at the University of Waikato.
