From military officer to technology pioneer, Mervyn’s decorated 30-year career has seen him specialise in vertical areas as varied as defence, public safety, transportation and healthcare. Most recently a Vice President of NEC, Mervyn managed a team of researchers, engineers and solution specialists to create and deliver cutting-edge AI-enabled solutions for smart and safe cities in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Surat, Lima and Wellington. Prior to this, Mervyn served as Chief Technology Officer and Deputy Vice President in Technology at ST Electronics, where he was involved in delivering large-scale projects for the Singapore Government. During this time, he also served as the Track Chairman of the International Command and Control Research Technology Symposium (ICCRTS). As a researcher and inventor, Mervyn has been presented with numerous accolades, including the Gary Wheatley Award for the Best Research Paper, the NATO Scientific award for inventing new methods of Command and Control in Civil-Military operations. He now spends his free time mentoring students at the University of Western Australia, and sits on the Industry Advisory board for Singapore Institute of Technology and Glasgow University. Meryvn holds a Master of Science in Defence Electronics from Cranfield University, as well as First Class Honours in Computer Science from the University of Western Australia. Mervyn is a sports enthusiast. He jogs daily, and in his younger days, represented the university and previous organisations in badminton, soccer, dragon boat and windsurfing.
